Dark Horse Brewery: Perkulator Coffee Doppelbock

Perkulator Coffee Doppelbock
511 S. Kalamazoo Ave
Marshall, MI
23. Specialty Beer

Aroma: (9/12)
Bold fresh-pressed coffee aroma. No other aromas
are determinable other than the java.

Appearance: (3/3)
Dark reddish brown hue. Very little
head from the tap and the small amount
dissipates right away. No lacing at all.

Flavor: (12/20)
In your face coffee flavor dominates
No doppelbock flavors come through
at all.  A slight raisin aftertaste. More
of a coffee brown than a coffee
doppelbock. Misnomer!

Mouthfeel: (3/5)
Doppelbocks are usually thick and creamy, but
this beer is lacking body for the style.  No
creaminess, either.

Overall Impression: (7/10)
This beer has fantastic coffee flavor from the tip
of the tongue to the back.  The only issue I have
with it is that it isn't a doppelbock as the body is
too light.  Call it a coffee brown and it is
excellent.  Not to style.

TOTAL: 34/50
