Slight roasted aroma, less than I thought for a R.I.S..
Some notes of chocolate as well. I'm possibly picking up
the aroma of the residual sugars.
Appearance: (3/3)
Fantastic head from the tap. Head is a nice
brown hue. Head stays/persists as it laces
the edges of the glass.Flavor: (18/20)
A wonderful roasted flavor with some hop
bite on the back end (more than usual from a
R.I.S.). Definitely large amounts
of residual sugars! Slight roasted astringency,
but works well and isn't a detriment. Notes of
raisins and cherries. This darkness is one forthe ages!
Mouthfeel: (5/5)
Very creamy! Big bodied, but not too thick at all.
Some grittiness aftertaste, but I chalk that up
to the amounts of sugars in this gem!Overall Impression: (10/10)
This is one of the best R.I.S. I've ever had.
Balance with this is fantastic. The cherries and
raisin flavors do wonders to elevate this beer to
the top of its class. A real animal, and a real
delight!

Hey, I have been enjoying your blog thoroughly. I like the way you grade beers using the BJCP format and guidelines. I am a very green BJCP judge and it's nice to see scoring on a regular basis. Curious to see how your Stout turns out. Cheers, DA

I can't wait for the Stout to finish up. I need to add the vanilla bean some time this week and then wait a few more weeks and then carbonate it. More than willing to share when I get it finished!
That would be awesome Kelly, now I need to brew something up to share as well, it's getting thin on the home front. I took the BJCP class offered by the MN Homebrewers Club earlier this year. I took the exam in April and have YET to get the results. I judged during the AHA regionals in April and the State Fair competition and the Renn Fest competition. I love to judge and all the great people you meet doing it. How long/where have you been judging?
